The Story of Film: An Odyssey

The Story of Film: An Odyssey is a documentary movie about the history of film. Episode one of this documentary of film introduces us into the new world of cinema and its recent history dating back to the 19th century. With the creation of film in france by the Lumiere brothers, the world took on this new art form and ran with it. Some of the earliest films such as, Traffic Crossing Leeds Bridge (1888) , Louis Le Prince, Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory (1895) build a strong foundation for many more films to come. Episode one talks mainly about the advancement of early film and introduction of filming strategies such as the double take, the cut, and the paste. Although first black and white and low quality, the cinema industry skyrocketed almost instantly after its birth. in the 20th century films took on the form of stories rather than just being about a random scene. This change would eventually lead to movies we see in the theatres today such as Pain and Gain and Scary Movie 5. The history of film is very significant in american culture and should not be forgotten.
